Data Migration – converting Tally 4.5 data to Tally 9 Data
The migration of data from Tally 4.5 to Tally 9 is a two stage process. You will first need to migrate the data to Tally 7.2 compatible data using ‘Tally 4.5 to Tally 7.2 Data Migration’ utility. Then migrate the Tally 7.2 data to Tally 9 compatible data using ‘Tally 7.2 to Tally 9 Data Migration’ utility.
Stage 1: Migration data from Tally 4.5 to Tally 7.2 |
1. |
Download the Tally 4.5 data converter:

Or | ||||||
• Right click the following link and click ‘Save Target As’ from the right click option
http://www.tally9.info/download/tally45to72convertor.zip
2. |
Run the Convert45to72.exe and extract the files to a folder
3. |
Copy the extracted files to the directory where Tally 4.5 is installed
4. |
Run the file WCVTALLLY.EXE (the icon will be identical to Tally Icon). (You can also execute this file from command prompt
Click Start > Run > Type ‘C:\<Tally 4.5 directory name>\WCVTally.EXE C:\<Data path>
5. |
Company Info screen appears, select the company you want to migrate. You will be asked to confirm conversion, and the Data is converted.
6. |
Run Tally 7.2, and select ‘Backup‘ from Company Info screen.
7. |
Specify the location of data you just migrated in the ‘Source‘ field, select the company and backup the data
8. |
Now select ‘Restore‘ from the Company Info screen of Tally 7.2
9. |
Specify the location where the company backup is stored in the ‘Source‘ field and restore the company
10. |
From the Company Info screen of Tally 7.2, select the Company for which data has been converted. The system will prompt for aRewrite. Select ‘Yes’ and proceed.
11. |
The data is now ready to be viewed in Tally 7.2.
| Note: | |||||||
| Stage 2: Now proceed to migrate data from Tally 7.2 to Tally 9, as mentioned below: | |||||||
12. |
Install Tally 9 | ||||||
13. |
Now run ‘TallyMigrateData‘ utility from Start > Programs > Tally 9 > TallymigrateData
Note: You can also run the migration utility by double clicking tally72migrate.exe file located in the folder where Tally 9 is installed.
14. |
The utility will launch Tally Data Migration Tool and Tally 9
15. |
Select ‘Migrate Data‘ in the Migration Company screen
16. |
Specify the directory where Tally 7.2 data is located in the ‘Directory‘ field
17. |
Select the company from the List of Companies
18. |
Data Migration utility loads the data of selected company and asks for confirmation
19. |
Select ‘Yes‘ and start the migration of selected company
20. |
The status of migration from Tally 7.2 to Tally9 is shown in the Migration Messages Pane
21. |
When the migration is complete, it displays an information pop-up, “Migration Completed, Check Statistics (press any key)”
22. |
On pressing any key ‘Congratulation‘ message appears confirming the completion of the migration of the data
| Note: If any error occurs during migration, the error details are written to ‘migration.err‘ file, which is automatically generated and saved in the folder where Tally 9 is installed. | |||||||
23. |
The migrated company is by default saved in the Tally 7.2 data folder. The migrated data is prefixed with a ’0′ and appears as a 5 digit number. For example, if the company folder number, before migration was ’0099′, after migration it would be ’00099′.
24. |
Now your migrated data is ready for use in Tally 9
